Torakan Devonport Presents: Traditional Shotokan Kata Seminar

Torakan Devonport Presents: Ted D’Arcy Sensei 6th Dan & Thomas McKinnon Sensei 5th Dan hosting a Traditional Shotokan Kata Seminar Attention: Due to unforeseen circumstances; there is a change of venue and the seminar will now take place at the East Devonport Recreation Centre Stadium: East Devonport Recreation Centre Stadium, 67 Caroline Street, East Devonport Doors will open at 9:00am on Saturday the 3rd of March and the seminar will begin at 9:30am. There will be a break for lunch from 12am until 1pm and the seminar will conclude at 3:30pm. $30 fee, pay on the day. Ted D’Arcy Sensei will be establishing just why Kanku Dai is regarded by traditionalists to be the vanguard of Shotokan Kata by examining this powerful Shotokan Kata and the bunkai within. D’Arcy Sensei is Technical Advisor and a founding member of the Karate Union of Australia; he is also a former Australian National Champion, in both Kata and Kumite, and has represented Australia Internationally. Thomas McKinnon Sensei will be covering Meikyo and its bunkai, and introducing Meikyo Nidan and Meikyo Sandan. Only one of the three Meikyo Kata is currently on the JKA listing of Shotokan Kata; however all three were taught by Funakoshi Gichin Sensei’s son, Funakoshi Gigo Sensei, and Meikyo Nidan is reported to have been one of Nakayama Masatoshi Sensei’s favourite kata. McKinnon Sensei is Chief Instructor for Torakan, Technical Advisor for, and a founding member of, the Karate Union of Australia; also a former Scottish International and NSW State Representative.
